Maggie's Foundation

Every year, over 10,000 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumor; most of these are children under 9 years of age. We are hoping in time to help make a difference and reduce this number. This Foundation is named after Margarida (Maggie) De Fontes, who passed away on October 12th , 2004, at age 30, after a 3-year struggle with brain tumors.
For 3 years, Maggie worked hard to raise proceeds and awareness. In May 2002, only 10 months after her 1st surgery and chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Maggie was the first person to ever hold a walkathon for this cause, in the province of Quebec. We would hold 2 more such events together in May 2003, and May 2004, with each year increasing donations and participation by fellow Montrealers.  During this time, Maggie would undergo a 2nd brain tumor operation, and continued treatments. Yet she maintained her spirits and her determination to make a difference in this fight!
Ongoing public support helps us direct much needed funding to those affected by brain tumors. We rely solely on the generosity of individuals and corporations to help us in our quest. All net proceeds raised by our Foundation will be donated to the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital brain tumor research center.
